I picked up Haunted House in August 2004, and here's a photo that was provided by the seller. As you can see, it had the usual wear on the playfield around the pop bumpers, attic entrance, and basement ball drop areas, but overall it was in decent shape. See those white blobs under the edges of the playfield window? That's hot glue the previous owner used to secure it, instead of simply replacing the washers. That aside, I was relieved to find the rest of the machine in good working order.

Fast forward to the present. Here's what the playfield looks like now. I created overlays using photos of a NOS playfield to recreate the artwork for the areas that were worn right through to the wood. The rest of the playfield cleaned up nicely with Magic Eraser and Novus 2.

Thankfully, this machine came with a perfect, original backglass. The colors are exceptionally vivid even after 25 years and the lightning effect is very cool! *

What a great looking (and playing) game! No wonder it's considered a classic.

Upper playfield shot. I used an overlay to repair the commonly worn area at the entrance to the attic. The pop bumper area just needed minor paint touch up. Note that I replaced the original pop bumper mylar with the self adhesive type to prevent any future damage.

All of the metal parts on the game were seriously tarnished and looked like they'd never been cleaned. A little Mothers Mag Wheel polish and lots of elbow grease helped me restore them to their original shine.

Amazingly, the original secret passage plastic was still intact! The clear plastic tubes that run to the basement cleaned up well with Novus 2 and they now look brand new.

I managed to match the orange and yellow paint colors quite well and was able to successfully conceal the wear spot from the basement kickout.

Another area of playfield wear that needed to be touched up was in front of the center kickout hole. In both cases, mylar was applied to those areas to protect the touch-ups and prevent future damage.

The Welcome area at the top of the playfield was in perfect shape which is unusual for this game.
